One of Omaha’s most distinguished architectural landmarks is back in business. Following a multi-year effort to refurbish the structure, the Dodge Street Overpass was formally rededicated Sept. 21. The event, which acknowledged the original dedication of the bridge in 1968, involved students from neighboring St. Margaret Mary Elementary School, relatives of former Omaha Mayor Robert Cunningham and bridge architect William Durand, a National Steel Bridge Alliance representative who reaffirmed the bridge’s “Most Beautiful Bridge” designation by the American Institute of Steel Construction, city officials, neighbors and members of the general public.
