Join REO on Sunday, April 26, anytime between 1 and 4 p.m. for a tour of the former home of Italian immigrant Vincent P. Chiodo at 1004 S. 25th Avenue in Omaha.
In the 1910s, Chiodo bought the Douglas County jail and courthouse “for a song,” imported skilled masons from Italy, and with the salvaged materials built this home along with the nearby Florentine Apartments at 907-11 S. 25th St. and other properties. As Italian vice-counsel in Omaha, Chiodo “wined and dined visiting dignitaries in his home, with its huge Burmese stone fireplaces, rich mahogany woodwork and stained glass windows.” The current owners have lovingly restored this “palace,” as it was once known. REO is excited to have you experience it.
The tour is FREE for Restoration Exchange Omaha members. Not a member? Join at the door or online atwww.restorationexchange.or/get-involved/member
And, while you are in the neighborhood, stop by the Santa Lucia Hall at 725 Pierce Street. They’ll be showing off the clean-up work they have done from noon to 5 p.m.
